Local residents are reporting they’ve been targeted by a scam that presents as a local number.
Kitimat resident Glenn Ruzycki says he was contacted by a local number claiming to be from Telus fibre optics, saying they would give him a free high speed router. The caller then asked the resident to log into his computer.
Ruzycki became suspicious and hung up. He then discovered it is a known scam going around.
Both the RCMP and Telus have issued warnings in relation to fake Telus scams.
Telus says themselves and other reputable organizations such as the Canada Revenue Agency, or any financial institutions, or similar, will never ask you to provide personal, login or account information through unsolicited emails, texts or phone calls.
